Dealer Comments

This spectacular 1938 Ford "Woodie" Station Wagon is a fabulous example that ranks among the finest available. It was fully restored, finished in 2007, in Black with Tobacco interior and with no expense spared.
The car was sold new in Massachusetts and had been in the same family from the late 1970s until 2005, when it was sold to a fellow New Englander who undertook the restoration. The well cared-for family heirloom was totally stripped and required only minor tin work, the black paint and the bodywork professionally finished by Ron's Auto Madness in Bristol, CT. The all new wood paneling, sourced from Cincinnati Woodworks, was finished and fitted along with final body assembly by Jim Murdock and his experts at Vintage Boat Restorations (also of Bristol, CT).
While the car was disassembled, the 221ci Flathead V8, which is believed to be the factory original engine to this wagon, was totally stripped, inspected, serviced as needed, and then refinished as it left the factory, a desirable Columbia two-speed rear end added for significantly greater highway usability, the brakes were updated with the Early V8 Garage 1939 hydraulic braking kit, the suspension rebuilt, the original pressed steel wheels refinished, and exhaust system replaced. Likewise, the interior was totally retrimmed, new rubber floor mats added, the fabulous vintage Trico interior cooling fan and the accessory dome light cleaned and re-installed, and the metal dash painstakingly redone in its factory correct faux walnut wood finish, with consultation from Gary Mallast, the 1938 Technical advisor at the Early Ford V-8 Club of America.
In late 2008, with ailing health, the owner sold the car to a friend, who is one of Park Place LTD's best customers and an enthusiastic collector with a host of vintage American cars and early Fords. "After seeing the result of the restoration, I'd told Tom that if he ever sold it, I wanted to know first." A deal was stuck and it's been a part of his collection since.
Included with purchase is a file with a letter about the car and its history from the previous owner, copious photos documenting the restoration, correspondence with the Early V-8 Ford Club, the owners manual for the Columbia rear end, various '38 Ford information, parts lists, and the professionally taken photos you see displayed on our site. To view these photos in ultra high resolution and to see excerpts from the restoration process, please see this car's folder on our Flickr feed, at Flickr.com/ParkPlaceLTD.
Just 6,944 Station Wagons were built for 1938, and the majority have not survived the use and passing of nearly eight decades. This impeccably restored, fully sorted example has to rank among the very finest available anywhere on the market.
