1940 Ford Street Rod
When it came to 1950s hot rodding, there were few things more desirable than a flathead V8 and a 1940 Ford. The infinitely modifiable cars were critical to the early days of the car modification scene and to this day remain the gold standard. This 1940 Ford Pickup embodies the extent that people have gone to with modifying these vehicles and represents a fantastic opportunity to get a fantastic looking hot rod that has been thoroughly sorted and is ready to drive anywhere! The builder of this truck started with an already very clean shell- unlike many hot rods of this era, it is 100% steel that has been carefully worked on to create a glass smooth finish. The attention to detail carried through to the stunning orange paintwork which is highlighted by the signature 1940 Ford chrome grille and headlight rings, giving it tremendous visual presence. A custom hard shell tonneau, rear roll pan with integrated exhaust pipes and shaved door handles complete the sleek look. The staggered set of Colorado Custom billet aluminum wheels give off a sporty feel and on the inside, there is a steering wheel to match.
Venturing inside the vehicle, you find two bucket seats, wrapped in tan leather with a specially built center console dividing them which features nice conveniences like cup holders and storage space. A very unique feature is the addition of an overhead console on the roof where the AM/FM CD stereo sits, which sends music through multiple in-cabin speakers including two on the roof, a subwoofer beneath the seats and an amplifier that is color matched to the exterior is prominently placed on the rear bulkhead. The dashboard has a stock look but has been upgraded with a wood grain veneer and a set of gauges from Classic Instruments for more accurate readings. All the modern amenities you need are accounted for in this vehicle including a tilt steering column, power windows and an all important addition of air conditioning. These upgrades make the interior a fantastic place to spend time and the added comfort makes this truck an ideal road trip vehicle to drive from car show to car show!
The upgrades do not stop under the hood either. A Ford Racing 302 V8 has replaced the original engine and importantly, kept the vehicle all Ford. The builder elected to replace the carburetor with a FAST fuel injection system, resting on an Edelbrock manifold, that improves both drivability and reliability. Paired with a Mallory ignition system and a full serpentine belt drive system (with lots of billet pieces), this truck is ready to hit the road without issue for years to come. The engine sends its power through an AOD 4-Speed automatic transmission with overdrive that provides relaxed highway cruising and plenty of get up and go in the city. Not wanting to leave anything out, the builder took his careful eye to the suspension which has received numerous reinforcement measures to keep up with the more powerful engine, and a set of airbag suspension was installed for smooth riding and an adjustable ride height. The original steering box was replaced with a more precise rack and pinion setup and the rear has a 4-link setup built around the tried and true Ford 9" rear end. Making a hot rod that looks good is not a hard job-but taking it to the next level and building something truly special that not only has the looks but also the performance and drivability to rival a modern car takes skill. This truck is that perfectly well rounded combination of style and substance.
