1964 Chevrolet C10 Pickup
In the 2000s when American Muscle Car values shot through the roof, many hot rodders and customizers could no longer justify altering these collector cars. It was at this time that the rise in popularity for modifying trucks really began to take hold and in recent years, the classic truck market has risen to show the widespread appreciation for the vehicles. Providing a perfect blend of classic style with usability that isn't available in coupes or sedans, people have come to appreciate trucks as a classic that you can still use- and the Chevrolet C10 is at the top of everyone's list. The 1960-1966 C10 is a truck that offers extremely classic looks, but can be modernized and made better to drive without sacrificing the original aesthetics and feel- just like with this example.
Produced in 1964, this C10 Fleetside "Big Window" is a beautiful example, finished in red with a white side stripe, white cab and white lettering along the rear tailgate. Over the past 15 years, this truck has been treated to lots of thorough care and refining- receiving an initial restoration in 2009 and then a comprehensive refresh in 2016, bringing it to a very high standard. Even from 20 feet away, you can tell that this truck is something special thanks to a combination of the expertly finished paint and body, the perfect stance on the Craiger mag wheels, and beautiful chrome work around the truck. The bed has been fitted with a combination of varnished wood and stainless steel that really ties the exterior together and shows the quality of craftsmanship that was carried out on this truck. There is little doubt that this C10 could hit the show circuit tomorrow and start bringing home prizes.
The interior was refinished to match the exterior paint scheme and features a beautiful two-tone red and white vinyl bench seat, which is paired to red and white painted elements on the doors and dashboard. A modern tilting steering column sits in front of the driver with a 3-spoke wood rimmed steering wheel sitting on it, and a tachometer sits on top. To add usability, this truck has been fitted with air conditioning as well as power steering, making it easy and pleasant to drive even on hot summer days. Tan carpeting and an upholstered headliner finish off the interior aesthetics and also keep out some of the heat and noise that can become tiring behind the wheel of a vintage truck like this.
Although this is without a doubt a beautiful truck, it wouldn't be complete if it didn't have some exciting bits under the hood. To start with, a 383ci V8 has been fitted with Edelbrock aluminum heads, high-rise intake, Holley 750 carburetor, jet coated hooker headers and MSD Ignition. When you put all of these elements together, you get a stout and reliable motor, rated for around 480 horsepower- which is more than adequate in a truck like this. That power is sent to the 12-bolt rear end through a Tremec 5-speed manual gearbox. If all of this doesn't sound like enough for you, the exhaust system is fitted with electronic cut outs that will turn this truck's exhaust note from a nice burble to race car loud at the flick of a switch- which is always a fun trick to have in your back pocket! The suspension has been altered with drop spindles, lowering springs and KYB shocks and a set of power disc brakes up front are also fitted- and important with this much power under your right foot!
What makes this truck so appealing is that all of the hard work is already finished and all it needs is a new owner to enjoy time behind the wheel. If you wanted to replicate this build, it would take significant time and effort and would undoubtedly end up costing more when it was all said and done. This truck looks fantastic and has the performance to back it up- if you are looking for that stunning show truck to take out when the weather warms up, look no further.
