1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS Pace Car Replica

First run in 1911, the Indianapolis 500 is America's most famous motor race with millions tuning in to watch it each year. For a manufacturer looking to promote their newest model, the Indianapolis 500 has also become a fantastic advertising tool with one car being chosen each year as the Pace Car. These cars get lots of screen time during the race and copies of the car are frequently produced in limited numbers, as a unique collector car for the public. Most of the time, a pace car is chosen from that year's new models but the first generation Camaro, was actually selected to pace the race in both 1967 and 1969 and is one of the few cars to hold this distinction. For 1967, the Pace Car was specified in a fantastic color combination of Ermine White with blue stipes and a stunning blue interior and was driven by famous American racing driver and 3-time Indy 500 winner Maurice "Mauri" Rose during the race. Chevrolet provided 4 cars to be used for Pace Car duties during the Indy weekend and then built 100 replicas to be used by race officials and VIPs for the month leading up to the race.
This 1967 Camaro is a tribute to the car that paced the race on May 30th 1967. Built to exacting specifications, this car has all the special features of the original Pace Car, along with some truly unique memorabilia from the 1967 race. Starting with a beautiful 1967 RS/SS Camaro Convertible, the car underwent a full restoration in 2008 where it was painted this beautiful shade of Ermine White. The signature "Official Pace Car" graphics and blue hood stripe have been installed and an outstanding white power convertible top sits under a bright blue tonneau cover round out the look on the outside. One distinction that sets apart a "normal" 1967 Camaro from the car that was out on the track was that the original Pace Car was specified with a massive 396ci V8 that pushed out over 325 Horsepower and was able to keep the Camaro ahead of the pack of race cars behind it. Staying true to the original, this car has also been fitted with a 396ci V8 that is paired to a TH400 Automatic transmission that sends power to a 12-Bolt rear end. A quick ratio steering box along with power steering and power front disc brakes make the car drive in a much more modern manner than you would expect for a 1967.
On the inside, the bright blue upholstery is stunning and the dashboard, steering wheel and carpets are all colored to match the graphics package on the outside. When you pull down the sunvisor in this Camaro, you start to see some of the special touches on this particular car- an autograph by one of America's most famous racing drivers and the winner of the 1967 Indy 500 AJ Foyt. A model of Foyt's 1967 winning Coyote-Ford racing car that is also autographed by the driver is included along with the car. To really round out the package, considerable time has been spent tracking down all sorts of unique items related to the 1967 race that will be included in the sale. An original Pit Pass Pin from the 1967 race is a truly special piece- showing a race car with a stamped credential number, these are not easy to come by and the condition of this one is nearly perfect. Also a pair of original race day programs from the race will be included and would look great on the dashboard of the car or in the backseat when the car is being displayed. Finally, a 1:16th scale model of the 1967 Pace Car as well as a keychain with a miniaturized version car are both fantastic pieces to have- there isn't much cooler than having a model of your exact car on display in your office! The 1967 Pace Cars are some of the more sought after examples of early Camaros and this gives you all the looks of that car without having to be so concerned about putting miles on a 1 of 100 collector car. The fact that in addition it comes with a trunk full of unique racing memorabilia makes this one special Camaro.
