Dealer Comments

This uber-rare 1968 BMW 2000CS coupe is completely original with all-matching-numbers and original Granada Red paint. One of very few great original examples remaining today, #1108344 (this particular E9 coupe) presents extraordinarily well inside and out. It would be extremely difficult indeed, to locate a better example of this rarely seen and highly sophisticated German sports touring coupe. This classic Bimmer is powered by a euro-spec (high-compression) 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with correct dual-sidedraft Solex 40PHH carburettors, backed by a proper 4-speed manual transmission. This 2-owner car, the original owner brought the car to Canada in 1968 from Germany and owned it until 2010, is in stunningly gorgeous condition throughout, appearing as it must have when crafted 50 years ago. The highly impressive original condition speaks to the careful attention this car has enjoyed. This extraordinary and extremely rare, matching-numbers BMW will be a cherished addition to any collection and is ready for its next caretaker to drive, show, and enjoy for many years to come.
The interior is very luxurious and of very high overall quality, the dash panel and trim are real wood and has a wonderful design. The CS' 120 horsepower engine is fully adequate for the relatively light car. The 2000 Coupe is quick on smaller roads and keeps good pace with today's modern cars on the highway. The original E9 coupe was quite a sports car back in the sixties, far ahead of the competition in terms of engineering, driveability, and safety. The car handles quite well on the road, with the ultra-modern (for the time) rear link semi-trailing suspension keeping the car stable, the front features modern strut suspension.
BMW wanted to offer a more upscale GT type Coupe based on the "New Class" platform, so they turned to German coachbuilder Karmann to produce the bodies for the 2000 C series. The new Coupe was penned in-house by BMW's legendary designer Wilhelm Hofmeister, famous for the 'Hofmeister-Kink' -- the iconic upwards kink on the lower window line of the C or D-Pillar found on most BMW's to this day. The stylish new Karmann-bodied coupe bodywork, combined with BMW's brilliant two-liter overhead-cam engine, made a compelling package and its sales were only hampered by its premium price. The 2000 Coupe would eventually serve as the basis for the legendary BMW 3.0CSL racecars.
