If you're looking for first-class fun at a very reasonable price this Corvette is your ticket, add in a set of lift-off T-tops for open-air motoring and you have a recipe for summertime fun that's pretty hard to beat.
This Corvette shows excellent and drives extremely well. The body is laser straight and the bright yellow paint is in fantastic condition. The black interior is never going to go out of style. The seats are as comfortable as they look with very nice covers and firm foam underneath. The black dash and door panels, with wood-grained inserts, and that cool center console with the integrated climate controls and shifter for the 4-speed manual transmission underneath all are in excellent shape. The gauges appear original and are in great condition, and the tilt steering column makes it easy to get comfortable in this sportscar.
Available as a coupe or convertible, the 1973 Corvette continued to be America's only true sports car. Visual changes were minimal: it's chrome front bumper was replaced with a urethane bumper designed to absorbed a five-mph crash without damaging the lighting or safety equipment, but it added two inches of length. New side vents were formed into the fiberglass front fenders, replacing cast vent grilles. And the longer "power bulge" hood eliminated the windshield wiper door and operating mechanism used in previous Corvettes. The hood also provided cold air induction at the base of the windshield. For the first time since 1968, the coupe rear window was not removable.
The 1973 was a one-year-only body design and marked the end of the chrome bumper corvette era with rear chrome bumpers going away in 1974 and being replaced by a rubber bumpers. GM also did away with the vacuum operated wiper door this year in favor of a longer hood to hide the wipers, and dropped the removable back window in favor of a glue-in window. The 1973 Corvette combined a tight suspension with its short wheelbase to provide excellent handling characteristics for a car that was not considered a lightweight. Improved body mounts smoothed out the ride over rough roads, and the standard four-wheel disc brakes stopped the car in short order.
The 1973 Corvette captured the best of both worlds. With six years of quality improvements under its belt, the buyer's choice of either a coupe or convertible, and a trio of engine options, new owners found the 1973 Corvette, while providing excellent performance, did so with grace and comfort not available in previous years. It just might be the best overall Corvette to buy today.
With all the hype surrounding skyrocketing Corvette prices it's no surprise that a lot of people forget that there are a lot of wonderful 'Vettes out there that still deliver Corvette fun for a reasonable price. This 1973 coupe is a perfect example. If a collector Corvette is in your future, do yourself a favor and check out this fabulous Stingray.
