1980 Porsche 911 SC Coupe
There are few cars more closely associated with the 1980s than the G-Body Porsche 911. Thanks in large part to their classic styling, exciting driving dynamics and legendary reliability, these 911s make the perfect classic that you can actually use. This 1980 911 SC was originally a German Market example that has spent much of its life in the United States, and benefits from a host of costly modifications to make it look and perform far better than a stock example.
At first glance, you may think that this 911 is actually older than a 1980 model year- in 2017, the owner at the time had a glass-out respray carried out to change the car's paint from basic silver, to this unique shade of Gold Green. This color looks stunning when paired with the 911 SC's black anodized trim around the windows and headlights, and suits the shape of the car perfectly. During this period, numerous other aesthetic modifications were fitted to the car such as a ducktail rear spoiler- applied in tribute to the 1973 2.7 RS- as well as a lightweight plexiglass rear window for weight saving. Porsche's classic Fuchs wheels on this car are fitted with black centers and polished lips, as well as painted insignia on the center caps and are wrapped in a set of Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires. Hella H4 headlights provide excellent illumination and are one of the most sought after upgrades on this era of 911 as far as lighting is concerned.
The upgrades don't end on the exterior of the car, open the driver's door and you are greeted by a pair of black leather wrapped Recaro seats, which offer a great improvement in both support and bolstering. A Momo Prototipo steering wheel sits in front of the driver and the quintessential Porsche dashboard with 5 gauges sprawls out in front of you with each gauge having a brushed aluminum ring to match the spokes of the steering wheel. A leather wrapped Momo shift knob sits atop the shift lever and an upgraded Blaupunkt stereo sits above it and is connected to Focal speakers throughout the cabin. A set of black and red Coco Mats have been fitted to this car and match the red RS fabric door pulls on each of the doors.
Sitting out back is a 3.0-liter air cooled flat-6 that produces 201 horsepower and 197 lb-ft of torque. These engines are legendary for their second to none build quality and stout design that means piling on miles should be largely headache free. On this car that is even more the case thanks to a significant reconditioning, when the engine was out for the color change. At this time, the car received new head studs, Carrera chain tensioners and new timing chain, and an updated air box- then in June of 2020, Chris's German Auto got its hands on the car and made sure everything was still dialed and ready to go. As a German market car, this 911 SC sits at "Euro" ride height and received new shocks- as well as brake lines- during the recommissioning in 2017. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed transaxle- these 911 SCs are fitted with the Type-915 gearbox which is a pleasure to use and made even better by the Wevo shift coupler installed in this example.
Nobody will ever deny the 911 SC is one of the great analog driving experiences and a car that every enthusiast should own and experience. This example would be the perfect entry to the air cooled 911 world- with its bulletproofed flat-6, stunning paint color and well updated interior, this 911 SC will provide an outstanding driving experience to whoever is lucky enough to put it in their garage.
