The "cookie cutter" style wheels used in the early 944s were upgraded to new "phone dial" style wheels (Fuchs wheels remained an option). 1985 model year cars incorporating these changes are sometimes referred to as "1985B", "85.5" or "19851/2" cars. The 944 shared the 924's profile, looking like a smoothed-out 924 Carrera GT - and that was enough to give the new car genuine road presence. Handling and grip were sensational. The 944 was on Car and Driver's Ten Best list from 1983 through 1985.
