1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

With the ever increasing popularity of sport utility vehicles in the new car market, it makes sense that classic SUV values are rapidly rising as well. One of the most sought after vintage SUVs out there is the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. With its classic wood paneled styling and unbeatable practicality, the Wagoneer is the go-to choice for the enthusiast who wants a collector car they can enjoy with the whole family. These Wagoneers have become so popular that businesses have sprung up whose sole job is finding great Wagoneers and making them even better, making sure that every Jeep that rolls out of its showroom is as perfect as the day it left the factory.

This 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is finished in white with wood applique down the side, and is fitted with significant powertrain modifications which make it both more powerful and more reliable. The consignor of this car purchased it from marque experts Wagonmaster in Kerrville, TX in May 2019 after they finished a restoration on the truck, bringing it up to their exacting standards. This Wagoneer sits on a suspension with a 2-inch lift, and a set of 15" Mickey Thompson aluminum wheels that are wrapped in knobby all terrain tires. This makes for a purposeful and period correct looking truck that is very capable if you find yourself off road.

The interior is finished in tan leather and velour upholstery and matching tan carpeting throughout. The plush seats look like they have never been sat in and the leather on the steering wheel looks absolutely brand new. Up front, the seats have 6-way power adjustment and in the rear, the seats fold down if you ever need to use your Jeep for hauling. The air conditioning system blows ice cold and makes this Jeep a pleasant place to spend time for the whole family.

Where this Wagoneer gets really special is under the hood. When the Jeep came out of the Wagonmaster shop, it was still fitted with its original AMC V8, but that wasn't powerful enough for the consignor. Advanced Auto Fabrication in Spokane Valley, WA got a hold of this Wagoneer and pulled the original engine out, and in its place, put a 6.0-liter L96 V8 that came out of a wrecked GMC Sierra 2500. The engine had just 19,000 miles on it at the time and is rated from the factory as producing 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque- numbers that put the original engine to shame. This engine was then topped with an Edelbrock high rise intake and a throttle body fuel injection system which makes it look period correct, and a set of Headman headers run back to a full stainless exhaust which gives the Jeep a nice burly exhaust note. The original 3-speed automatic was replaced with a 4L80E 4-speed automatic from GM and a GM transfer case was installed as well. Adjustable shocks were installed and Warn locking hubs upfront give the truck outstanding off road potential when the opportunity presents itself.

There is no better classic car to put at your lake or mountain house than a Grand Wagoneer and this truck is one of the best out there. Thanks to its thorough restoration by Wagonmaster combined with the modern drivetrain upgrades, all of the hard work is already done on this Grand Wagoneer and all you need to do is get behind the wheel and enjoy it.
