1994 Lotus Esprit S4

Launched at the 1975 Paris Motor Show, the Lotus Esprit looked like nothing else on the road and quickly became an automotive icon. The angular wedge design was a massive departure from its predecessor the Europa and its starring role in the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me cemented the car's place in automotive history. As time progressed, so did the Esprit- the Series 2 and Series 3 Esprits built off the angular doorstop shape of the original car but in 1994, the final series of Esprits introduced a rounder and more modern bodystyle with a unique rear wing mounted half way up the rear decklid. The S4 was powered by a turbocharged inline-4 producing 264 horsepower and marked the first Esprit with power steering. In 2004, the Esprit was discontinued and the S4 remains the most refined example and has become an icon in its own right.

Built in 1994- the S4's first model year- this Caypso Red example is one of just 339 cars produced worldwide for the year. A unique feature of the Lotus Esprit was the fully removable roof panel- giving the car a near convertible like driving experience, or the ability to prop it at the rear for increased ventilation in the cabin. The buyer was able to spec this in either body color or full glass when new but this car includes both styles of panel. The Esprit sits on a set of immaculate silver 17" S4 wheels on Falken sport tires and also includes four S4S wheels on high performance summer tires that would be ideal for trips to the track or autocross. On the interior, the S4 is outfitted with a beautifully refinished tan leather on almost every surface, a carbon fiber instrument binnacle surrounds a full gauge pack and an upgraded AM/FM CD player has been added to the center console.

Powering the Esprit is a 2.2-Liter Garrett Turbocharged Inline-4, this S4 is largely stock outside of the addition of a K&N air filter and an upgraded mid-pipe which have been added to help the engine breathe more easily. Recently, the engine has been treated to a comprehensive freshening that featured replacement of vacuum lines, lifters, camshaft, timing belt, numerous engine gaskets and a fluid flush for the major systems- this bill totaled over $14,000 and means this Lotus is ready to be enjoyed for years to come. Included with the Lotus is a 3-ring binder full of service invoices, all the factory books, toolkit, jack and a car cover. With only 339 examples built in 1994, this is a rare opportunity to own the ultimate example of the 4-cylinder Esprit and with its recent servicing, one that you are able to get in and not have to worry.
