1995 Dodge Viper
The first generation Dodge Viper went on sale to the public in January 1992 and immediately became the year's most talked about car. Developed as Dodge's modern day answer to the Shelby Cobra, the Viper was a stripped down sports car with an 8.0-Liter V10 up front and no safety features to speak of, which makes it a truly thrilling driving experience-even almost 30 years after its debut. The body of the car was made out of fiberglass and plastic side curtains take the place of glass windows- all in an effort to keep the car's weight down. From the factory, the V10 produced 400 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque and can propel the car from 0-60 in 4.3 seconds all while breathing through a set of the Viper's signature side exhaust pipes.
This 1995 example is no standard Viper- painted in black with a silver stripe, this car was purchased in 1996 by an employee of Chrysler Corporate who was, for a time, the head engineer on the Viper program. Since 1996, the car has stayed in the same family where it was both well cared for and enjoyed while also being treated to a host of tasteful aftermarket modifications. When new, the Viper had very few options available but this one has the all important optional air conditioning which is essential when sitting next to the hot exhaust. Although the Viper came from the factory with 3-spoke blade wheels, this example's most noticeable modification is its set of multi-piece HRE 540 wheels which really update the car's appearance.
The modifications don't stop at the wheels though, although the previous owner was the head engineer for the Viper, he found numerous things he could do to improve the car and make it more enjoyable to drive. The largest modification was an engine rebuild that took place in 2006 where the the compression ratio was raised to 10:1 and the intake and exhaust ports were all ported and polished. At the same time, a "smooth tube" intake was installed with K&N air filters for more airflow and the muffler was replaced with short glasspacks and high flow catalytic converters. Dyno tests show after this work was performed the car produced 498 horsepower and 535 lb-ft of torque- nearly 100 horsepower more than stock. Another big modification that changes the nature of the car was the addition of a short rear end- reduced from 3.07 to 3.55, the Viper's off the line acceleration has been improved dramatically. Along with these performance modifications, the previous owner added a set of RJS racing harnesses, a pistol grip shifter and an Alpine head unit on the interior. This Viper represents a great opportunity to own a final year RT/10 that has been modified for maximum enjoyment and cared for by someone who knows these cars inside and out.
