This 2011 Maserati GranTurismo S is a case in point, with its distinctive Pininfarina exterior styling and a sumptuous, drop-dead-gorgeous interior trimmed in soft leather and carbon fiber. With slinky Pininfarina-penned bodywork outside, butter-soft Poltrina Frau leather inside, a free-breathing Ferrari-inspired V8 under the hood, and smart, programmable modes in the suspension and transmission, the 2011 Maserati GranTurismo Sport has the body, brawn, and brains to tickle anyone's exotic-car fancy. Styled by the Pininfarina design house, the GranTurismo exudes Italian flair in equal doses to the sheet metal and the cabin. The low-slung nose, widely flared hips, and big trident logo are rolling sensuality. The cabin's a plushly lined, finely detailed place to enjoy a long drive.
The Maserati GranTurismo's bodywork is form-fitting and low-slung. A long, curvaceous hood, prominent oval grille and triple air vents on each front fender create a classic visage. This GranTurismo rolls on big, 20-inch alloy wheels, which dominate the car's aggressive profile. Race-inspired 4-wheel anti-lock Brembo brakes with vented and cross-drilled rotors provide powerful and confidence-inspiring stopping ability. This Sport model features an electronically controlled Skyhook adaptive suspension that continuously adjusts ride firmness to maintain optimum handling control and ride comfort regardless of the road surface
The heart and soul of this Maserati is its melodic, highly tuned 4.7-liter 440-horsepower V8 that was co-developed with Ferrari. The engine's song becomes even more intoxicating in Sport mode, where an exhaust-system bypass valve can be opened for a more intense engine sound above 3,000 rpm. The GranTurismo's standard automatic transmission's operating modes include a Sport mode for quicker shifts, a Manual setting for full manual gear selection via steering column-mounted paddle shifters, and Ice mode for low-grip situations where the transmission starts out in 2nd gear.
