1967 MGB GT
The formula for a classic British sports car is simple. A basic, small torquey motor up front, a lightweight body and a notchy gearbox all combined with a great handling chassis and little else. Essentially all of them were roadsters with plastic windows that would get cold in the winter and hot in the summer- but the driving experience was what really mattered. That all changed in 1965 when MG released the coupe version of their famed MGB Roadster, the MGB GT. The beautiful shape was penned by famed Ferrari design house Pinninfarina and stands the test of time as one of the greatest shapes placed on an English car. This 1967 example has been comprehensively restored and upgraded-with over $60,000 in receipts- to transform it into a comfortable, reliable grand touring machine with loads of extra performance over a standard model.
When the current owner purchased this MGB GT, it was a nice honest example but needed some work to get it to where he desired the car. To take it to the next level, the car was sent to BMC British Automotive in Isanti, MN who worked on the car from 2015 to 2019, rebuilding or replacing every piece on the car to make it perfect. The running gear is the most notable change- getting rid of the standard OHV Inline-4, the shop put in a 3.4-Liter GM V6 with electronic fuel injection. The car now produces a reliable 160+ Horsepower and if it needs anything, parts will always be available at your local auto parts store. This engine has been paired with a Tremec T-5 5 speed manual which provides a satisfying shift feel and is more than capable of putting up with the engine's power. To keep the vehicle cool even on the hottest days, an aluminum radiator and electric fan have been installed and a set of ceramic coated headers keep the heat out of the engine bay to help with underhood temperatures. Front disc brakes have been added to help slow the car down and poly bushings along with a new 3/4" front sway bar help keep the car planted on the road.
The exterior of the car is finished in Riviera blue and all of the car's brightwork shows fantastically. The chrome bumpers and wire wheels are both crucial elements with the MGB GT's overall aesthetic and give the car the proper vintage appearance. Inside, the seats and door cards have been reupholstered in high grade black leather with blue piping to match the exterior and all of the carpets have been replaced and look better than when they were new. A beautiful set of Smiths gauges sit right in front of the driver and give you all the information you need while maintaining the classic British sports car feel and a three spoke aluminum and wood steering wheel gives the driver the perfect tactile sensation and is exactly what every classic sports car should be fitted with. There are many reasons that the allure of a classic English sports car is strong with so many people but when reality sets in, the true ownership experience usually doesn't live up to the dream. With this car, you get all of the looks and driving enjoyment of an original but without the annoyance associated with owning a classic like this.
